Meet Quay!  He is a 4 year old, 63lb black lab mix that was surrendered when his owner fell ill.

Personality:  Quay is a very sweet, cuddly love bug who forms strong bonds with his people. He can be shy and timid at first, especially around men and kids, and may initially appear scared in new situations. When nervous, he seeks comfort by staying close to his trusted person and may hide behind their legs. With patience and calm reassurance, he warms up and becomes incredibly affectionate and loyal. Once he feels safe, his true personality shines—gentle, loving, and devoted. His foster describes him as “truly the best boy.”

Training:  Quay is very obedient and listens well when given direction. He knows the commands sit, stay, and no, and is eager to do what he’s asked. He is house trained and does great loading into a crate when needed. Quay is also good with other dogs and does well in a home routine when given clear guidance and gentle leadership.

Updates

Quay continues to be a super good boy!  He has run of the house, with our dogs, anytime we go out and is there to greet us when we get home.  He sleeps in a dog bed in our room at night.  He will let you know if he needs to go out.  He promptly does his business and is usually the first one to want back in the house.  He comes if you need to call  him.  He knows what objects are toys and what are not.  He loves to raid the toy box and put toys in a pile.  He has settled in well and no longer feels the need to follow me everywhere. He loves walks and is eager to go on them.
Quay was away from us for a week and he did exhibit the defensive, timid, shy tendencies.  When we got him back he went back to his good boy self.
With that there will be and adjustment period with Quay and it may be good for another dog to be in the house (still don’t know about cats)
We have had Quay for several days now and he is a great boy!
As is noted in his Personality, he was a bit shy at first. He was more cautious than nervous and definitely more wary of men.  He now happily greets whomever is coming or going and enjoys hanging with humans.  He has settled in with us and our 2 dogs seamlessly and loves going on walks.  Quay does know several commands and comes promptly when called.  He is house trained and had no accidents.  He knows “kennel” and goes in willingly.  He would prefer not to stay in the crate, this probably because he wants to hang out with our dogs – who are not crated.  Recently we allowed him to have run of the house when we were away and he did great!
We think Quay would be good in any household – dogs/kids/solo (don’t know about cats).  He is super sweet, attentive and affectionate.
