Meet Porter! He is a 7 year old, 56lb black lab mix that was surrendered by his owner after they could no longer care for him.
Personality: Porter is a super sweet boy. He has lots of energy and loves to play. Even though he grew up as a single dog, he immediately bonded with the chocolate lab in his foster’s family and won’t leave her side. He sleeps right next to her and goes where she goes. Porter loves to go out for walks or chase the ball. After a good run he is very happy to take a nap or chew on a Nyla bone or deer antler. He had a lot of change in his life in the past few weeks, and he is just craving to be loved again.
Training: Porter walks well on a leash and knows basic commands like sit, stay or lay down. He is completely housetrained and has good house manners. He was crate trained, though he no longer uses a crate during the day or night.
He would love to be in a home with another dog and an active family that will provide play time and walks.

PORTER update
Porter is doing amazing. He loves to be close to his people and snuggle on the couch at night. In a true lab fashion, he follows me around the house to stay close. He is just so excited to greet us in the morning and he makes a little howl. He equally loves our being with our lab. He loves to play tug of war with her, chase the same tennis balls or lay very close to together with our lab in one doggie bed.
He has been great in the house and does not need to be crated. He sleeps for 10+ hours at night without issues. He does not chew on anything and is happy to relax in his bed or the couch. He loves chewing on Nyla bones or deer antlers.
He loves to go on walks or runs and does well on a leash. He is getting better at ignoring other dogs during our walks and has had a few positive interactions with new dogs. He will need continued patience to build his confidence when meeting other 4-legged friends. He is great at meeting people and happy to say hello to anybody.
He has good recall and will come when you call him. He knows sit, paw, and wait to get permission to go outside. Porter is very healthy and has good energy. He really loves to run after tennis balls and go for long walks or runs. He equally loves to lay outside in the sunshine. He really is a very sweet and very loyal dog and ready to become your best friend.
Porter has been with us for a few weeks, and he is thriving in a stable environment. He loves being with our chocolate lab; playing with her or just laying close to where she is. They love to play tug of war or run together after the same toy. After intense playing, he will lick our dogs face to show his respect. He also loves to cuddle with his people. He will jump on the couch (when given permission) next to me for a good snuggle at night. He is very treat motivated and absolutely happy to learn new things. He does a great job waiting at the door before going outside and is really improving his recall when you call his name.
He is fine meeting new people. He might bark for a second but then is happy to say hello. He struggles a bit with meeting new dogs, but after he realizes the other dogs is friendly, he happily walks side by side his new friend. He will need patience and practice in meeting new dogs. We are working on allowing him to get more positive interactions with other new dogs.
He loves going on runs or walks. He also loves retrieving tennis balls as you can see in the attached video. He would do great in a fenced yard with a human friend willing to throw those ball! He is such a sweet loyal boy who is craving to be with a loving and active family
Porter has been with us for 4 days and is doing great! You can tell he is a bit confused on why his world has been turned upside down but he is starting to relax more every day in his new environment. He immediately became best friends with our Chocolate Lab and follows her around everywhere. They like wrestle and play tug of war, chew on bones side by side or just sleep close together. He licks the face of our lab showing his affection and respect for her – it is very adorable. Porter has been sleeping through the night in the living room and has not needed to be crated. He and our lab have been left alone for a few hours at a time without issues. He likes hard toys to chew like Nyla bones or deer antlers. Soft toys will be quickly dismantled, but he does not chew on anything he is not supposed. He is quite athletic and has good endurance. He likes to retrieve tennis balls but is even more interested in running after his new best friend while she is retrieving the balls instead. HAHA. We have taken a few runs together and he has done great running on the leash for 2-3 miles. He likes to be outside and sniff. He is very alert to his environment and will let you know when he hears something out of the ordinary. He is really a very sweet boy and will be a very loyal companion for any family.
