Meet Nilla! She is a 1-2 year old, 40lb yellow lab mix that was found stray in Mississippi.
Personality: Nilla has a big heart! She’s playful, sweet, and is great with humans of all sizes (including children). She is so sweet and affectionate! Nilla would love a home with a nice backyard where she can enjoy some outdoor time. She currently does doggie daycare and does well with larger dogs (no small dogs though). She has also been exposed to cats but due to her prey drive, we are recommending a cat-free home. When she is not exploring the outdoors, she loves bones and toys, and she has never chewed anything she shouldn’t.
Training: Nilla is a smart girl and knows all of the basics (and then some!). She is housetrained and crate trained. She knows sit, stay, come, and is working on some other basic commands. She is learning quickly! Nilla is very strong on a leash and is working through leash reactivity. She is doing well working on some redirection tactics. She is very treat motivated which helps with her training.
Nilla is an amazing dog and would make a great addition to any family!
Updates
Nilla is an incredibly sweet and affectionate girl who’s been making amazing progress in her training! She’s been working with an E-collar to help with her leash reactivity and is responding beautifully. She can heel, hold a sit, go to place, and is currently working on her door manners and learning “down.” This smart girl is eager to learn and really thrives when she has a job to do.
While Nilla is calm and content in the house when someone is home, she does need to be crated when left alone. She has some separation anxiety and will chew on things if left uncrated—nothing major like furniture, but she’ll find smaller items to occupy herself with. We’ve been taking it slow and working on her manners first to build that foundation.
Nilla gets along great with other large dogs and attends daycare three times a week. She is not a match for homes with small dogs though. She is a very high-energy girl who needs regular activity and mental stimulation—training sessions, structured walks, or even puzzle toys go a long way for her.
At night, Nilla is a total lovebug. She sleeps in bed, snuggled right up, and gives plenty of kisses.
GENERAL
Nilla is such a great dog! She has a really affectionate and playful personality. She is becoming more confident every day! She plays well with our two dogs, and is just the cuddliest dog we’ve ever known! We also just discovered that she really doesn’t shed much at all! Even the “Furminator” doesn’t get much fur when we brush her.
CRATE
She is doing such a great job with her crate. When we leave the house, we hear NO barking! Such a fast improvement! She has been left alone for up to 5 hours and is fine when we get home. She does need to be crated when we leave the house. She can get a little nervous when left alone. She voluntarily goes into her open crate for a rest. She sleeps in a soft crate in the bedroom with us and does great all night! We’re so proud of her for making such huge strides! Not one accident!
TRAINING
We are continuing leash training and she is doing amazingly well! We have been working on sit, heel, leave it, down, and stay and she is doing great. She has the potential to be a very obedient dog. She loves her training treats. She likes to explore and chase (just discovered lizards!), but her energy when she does get excited is very playful.
PLAY
She reached out her paw to pat our younger dog, Stella, on the nose (boop!). So cute. She and Stella have been playing well together, running and wrestling. And she grooms our senior dog, Lucy’s, ears. So gentle. She is a happy, playful girl. She loves her bitey bones, and squeaky tennis balls!
INTERACTIONS
She has been to the dog park a number of times, and does great with many other dogs in the mix. She loves to run and hop and chase balls. Nilla’s most favorite thing continues to be hanging out with her person. If Cuddling was an Olympic sport, she would for sure bring home the Gold! Our cat has started to venture into the house, and we are working on getting Nilla used to the cat.
Overall, she is a very happy, curious, gentle, snuggly doggo who needs some love, patience, and continued basic training.
