Meet Nilla! She is a 1-2 year old, 40lb yellow lab mix that was found stray in Mississippi.
Personality: Nilla has a big heart! She’s playful, sweet, and is great with humans of all sizes (including children). She is so sweet and affectionate! Nilla would love a home with a nice backyard where she can enjoy some outdoor time. She gets along well with other dogs and loves to play! She has also been exposed to cats. She will chase them but has the best of intentions – she just wants to play! When she is not exploring the outdoors, she loves bones and toys, and she has never chewed anything she shouldn’t.
Training: Nilla is a smart girl and knows all of the basics (and then some!). She is housetrained and crate trained. She knows sit, stay, come, and is working on some other basic commands. She is learning quickly!
Nilla is an amazing dog and would make a great addition to any family!
Updates
Hi All, Nilla here!
I have been with a foster family, and can’t wait to meet my FURever family! If you choose me, I will be the bestest girl for you. I promise I’ll give you lots of kisses and snuggles.
Over the weekend I met a lot of folks from the CLR Pack. They all said how pretty and well-behaved I am. And they commented on my cute smaller size. I’m fun-sized!
THINGS I LOVE
* Exercise! – I would love an active family
* Dog Park – My favorite kind of exercise! I love everybody there and play well with all the other dogs. I am getting pretty good at fetching!
* Wrestling with my foster sisters
* Hiking
* Toys and Bones – Tennis balls, antler “bones,” stuffies … I have never chewed anything I shouldn’t
* Snuggle and Cuddle
WORDS I KNOW:
* Off!
* Heal – I’m learning to be easy on the leash.
* Sit
* Wait – if you are going through a door, or getting me out of the car, this is a good one.
* Come
* Down – I will do this inconsistently with a treat, but I’m learning.
* Bring it – I’ll fetch, especially if I have a favorite ball and you have a treat ready for me.
* Goodbye Place – I’ll get right in my crate once I know the routine. Foster Mom says, “Goodbye Place” and I go right in!
Come out and meet me soon!
Love,
Nilla
GENERAL
Nilla is such a great dog! She has a really affectionate and playful personality. She is becoming more confident every day! She plays well with our two dogs, and is just the cuddliest dog we’ve ever known! We also just discovered that she really doesn’t shed much at all! Even the “Furminator” doesn’t get much fur when we brush her.
CRATE
She is doing such a great job with her crate. When we leave the house, we hear NO barking! Such a fast improvement! She has been left alone for up to 5 hours and is fine when we get home. She voluntarily goes into her open crate for a rest. She sleeps in a soft crate in the bedroom with us and does great all night! We’re so proud of her for making such huge strides! Not one accident!
TRAINING
We are continuing leash training and she is doing amazingly well! We have been working on “SIT,” “WITH ME” (heal), “WATCH,” EASY WALK (walking on a loose leash),” “LEAVE IT,” “DOWN,” and “WAIT” commands, and she is doing great. She has the potential to be a very obedient dog. She loves her training treats. She likes to explore and chase (just discovered lizards!), but her energy when she does get excited is very playful.
PLAY
She reached out her paw to pat our younger dog, Stella, on the nose (boop!). So cute. She and Stella have been playing well together, running and wrestling. And she grooms our senior dog, Lucy’s, ears. So gentle. She is a happy, playful girl. She loves her bitey bones, and squeaky tennis balls!
INTERACTIONS
She has been to the dog park a number of times, and does great with many other dogs in the mix. She loves to run and hop and chase balls. Nilla’s most favorite thing continues to be hanging out with her person. If Cuddling was an Olympic sport, she would for sure bring home the Gold! Our cat has started to venture into the house, and we are working on getting Nilla used to the cat.
Overall, she is a very happy, curious, gentle, snuggly doggo who needs some love, patience, and continued basic training.
