Meet Athena!  She is a 3 year old, 55lb black lab mix that was rescued from a neglect situation.

Athena’s journey to rescue is heartbreaking but also a testament to her resilience. Athena and her sister were discovered living in extremely poor conditions, confined to a crate nearly 24/7 with little care beyond occasional food. When their situation was discovered, a family member stepped in and removed them immediately. Both girls were severely underweight at the time.  Despite everything she endured, Athena has remained incredibly sweet and trusting of people.

Personality:  Athena is a friendly, loving dog who enjoys being around people and other animals. She has done well living in a home with multiple dogs, cats, and even small pets, showing just how adaptable and gentle she is. Athena has a calm and affectionate personality and seems happiest when she’s near her humans.

Because of the food deprivation she experienced earlier in life, Athena tends to eat quickly, so she does best using a slow feeder to help her pace herself. Now that she knows meals will come regularly, she continues to gain confidence and comfort.

Training:  Athena is crate trained and settles well in her crate. She would thrive in a home that continues to provide structure, patience, and lots of reassurance. Like many dogs who have overcome neglect, she is incredibly grateful for kindness and quickly bonds with the people who care for her.
